چکیده

one of the important bottle-necks in production of microalgae based biodiesel is thelack of an efficient method for harvesting of microalgae from the culture medium. in thisstudy, the electroflocculation method was developed for harvesting of microalgaedunaliella cells from culture medium. the effect of several parameters such as thecurrent density, electrical conductivity of culture medium, time, electrode gap, andelectrode type on harvesting efficiency and energy consumption were also determined.the maximum harvesting efficiency of this method was 97.44% at ec= 1.35 s m-1 andcurrent density of 90 a m-2 during 3 minutes electroflocculation process in a 300 mlbeaker. the maximum efficiency was achieved by aluminum electrodes with 1 cmdistance between electrodes and the maximum energy consumption for this practice was0.621 kw h m-3. it was concluded that electroflocculation is an efficient and cost effectivemethod for microalgae harvesting.

Modeling Growth of Microalgae Dunaliella Salina under Different Nutritional Conditions

Problem statement: The aim of this study was to find the empirical model that describes the growth kinetics of Dunaliella salina, with low production cost and to estimate parameters of this model. Approach: In this study the strain of D. salina UTEX 200 was cultivated in seawater (0.5 M NaCl) at room temperature with agitation of 150 rpm and luminous intensity of 60 mmols.m-2.s-1. The synthetic...

Molecular mechanism of green microalgae, Dunaliella salina, involved in attenuating balloon injury-induced neointimal formation.

The pathological mechanism of restenosis is primarily attributed to excessive proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC). The preventive effects of ethanol extract of Dunaliella salina (EDS) on balloon injury-induced neointimal formation were investigated. To explore its molecular mechanism in regulating cell proliferation, we first showed that EDS markedly reduced the human aortic sm...

Adsorption of Radioactive Materials by Green Microalgae Dunaliella Salina from Aqueous Solution

Introduction: Nuclear accidents release large quantities of radioactive materials into the environment. Iodine-131 and cesium-137 are two radionuclides released during nuclear accident, which can pose the greatest cancer risks. These radionuclides can be moved to other areas through rain and wind. The aim of this study was to develop efficient and economical biological...

Potential of new isolates of Dunaliella salina

The halotolerant microalga Dunaliella salina has been widely studied for natural 10 β-carotene production. This work shows biochemical characterization of three newly isolated 11 Dunaliella salina strains DF15, DF17 and DF40 compared with D. salina CCAP 19/30 (confirmed to 12 be D. tertiolecta) and D. salina UTEX 2538 (also known as D. bardawil). Although all three new strains 13 have been gene...

Facile sand enhanced electro-flocculation for cost-efficient harvesting of Dunaliella salina.

Energy consumption and water resource in the cultivation and harvesting steps still need to be minimized for the popularization of the microalgae-based products. An efficient electro-flocculation method for harvesting Dunaliella Salina integrated with local sand has been successfully applied. Sand was effective for speeding up the processes of flocculation and sedimentation of algal flocs and t...
